Chapter One

Captain Best pulled back hard on the gear stick. Up, up, up; faster, faster, faster. Smiling, he accelerated his new Retalica-5 SpaceCannon to its limit, speeding with lightyear speed through the abyss that formed his galactic playground. Swurving up against the crust of his home planet, Zordon, the captain landed his ship in the Galactic Superhero Training schoolyard - where he had excelled as a Junior Cadet. Stepping out of his brand new spaceship, the Captain looked out onto Quadrant 3, Sector 7 - his home ground - and descended the stairs of the ship.

Striding proudly across the dirt to the Resident Lieutenant tent, Captain Best raised his head and re-positioned his cape. He flipped open the flap. Looking in, Captain Best was immediately faced with a small, but irregularily muscular man, who looked just about ready to explode as his dinner was interrupted.
"Wow," thought Captain Best, "This guy would be really good at Men's A Aerobics...Wait...where did that thought come from?" Without hesitation, the Lieutenant quickly changed his expression to one of recognising an old friend.

"Best, you scallywag, is that you?" the small man asked, placing his chopsticks and bowl of gruel by his side, and standing to meet with his old camp friend. Best smiled at the man who had graduated a year earlier than himself, who had since not been seen.

The Captain beamed. "I am he, who you remember," he said, feeling very special indeed. "I see you've returned to Camp '3, 7'! Fancy that. Lieutenant Awesome - back in school. You got a job here?"

"Yeah, low pay, but. They let me handle all of their weaponry though. I couldn't ask for more."

"They're fake, Awesome! They're training guns, nothing more!"

"Then what'd you come here for, to brag about your achievements?' Lt. Awesome snapped. "You were the one that had to resit a year! In fact, last I heard, you failed your Learner's (of course referring to the Spaceship License Test) three times!"

Captain Best jumped back, holding an arm out before him, knowing full well how dangerous Lt. Awesome could get if he was tempted. "No, Awesome. I came to show you my new ship! Bought it just a moment ago, I did!"

"And you had no other friend to show it to?" Lietenant Awesome mocked. The Captain went silent, but soon forgot this insult, revived by the excitement of his purchase. "Come and see!" he said, springing out of the tent - not noticing the commotion he was causing in all the other tents, who were trying to consume their gruel peacefully.

"She's a Retalica-5, super speeded and has a fifteen isogenide engine!"

Awesome smirked and faked an interest. "What model? How many cupholders does it have?"

"SpaceCannon. And it has eight cupholders, I'll have you know!" Best quickly boasted. He led his old friend to the ship. "This'll earn me a promotion for sure!" he laughed.

"You have a crew?' Lietenant Awesome inquired, showing no interest in joining one at all.

"Not yet, but I--" He was cut off by a call on his holographic wrist communication device: his holophone. A little hologram of a robed man appeared on it. "Best, get back here!" He yelled through his hologram. "There's trouble in Sector Nine!"
